Through intercession to the Theotokos (Virgin Mary), Katherine received vision of her Divine King. However, He turned away from her for her lack of true virtue and disbelief. Greatly saddened after this revelation, the humble Elder instructed her in the ways of the Christian life. After baptism, she once again beheld Christ, but anew —and from His hand received a ring; this ring was present on her hand after her final revelation of the Lord. Now emboldened, she rose in defense of her martyred brethren, confounded pagan philosophers, survived broken wheels by angelic miracle, and even led her imperial captors to the faith before laying down her life at the sword’s edge. The very ring, given by Christ, still rests on the finger of her relics to this day as an the eternal seal of her mystical marriage.
