Saint Cyprian of Carthage

(All Traditions)

A saint of courageous leadership

Thascius Caecilius Cyprianus — known to the Church as St. Cyprian — rose from a life of civic prominence to become one of the early West’s most forceful defenders of apostolic order. Converted in mid-life, he embraced episcopal responsibility at Carthage, shepherding his flock through plague, persecution, and internal crisis. When compromise threatened the Church’s unity and discipline he stood firm: preaching repentance, sacramental reconciliation, and the indispensable role of the bishop as guardian of the local Church. Arrested during the persecution of Valerian, he met death with calm witness — a pastoral martyr whose writings shaped Western ecclesiology for centuries.

This pendant captures that arc: conversion into committed service, steady leadership amid suffering, and the final witness of martyrdom. It is meant for those who not only bear his name but also for those value sacramental integrity, pastoral courage, and the hard work of holding a community together in faith.

Saint Cyprian, Pray to God for us!
